Earn Passive Income With Your Gaming PC in 2026
You spent $1,500 on a GPU. It earns $0 while you watch Netflix.
Your gaming rig sits at idle clocks between 10 PM and midnight, then again all weekend while you're out. Meanwhile, AI startups are paying for GPU compute by the hour. GhostNexus connects the two — and setup takes 10 minutes.
Is this for you?
You don't need a server room or technical expertise. If you check most of these boxes, you can start earning this week:
- NVIDIA GPU — RTX 2070 or newer (RTX 3080, 4070, 4090 are ideal)
- PC stays on most evenings or overnight — even if you're not at it
- Stable broadband connection — upload speed matters for job dispatch
- You don't game 24/7 — any idle window is potential earnings
AMD GPUs (RX 6000/7000 series) are not yet supported. Intel Arc support is in beta.
How it works — 3 steps
Install the node client
A lightweight Python process that connects your GPU to the GhostNexus job queue. Jobs run in isolated Docker containers — no access to your files or desktop.
Configure your schedule
Tell it when you want to accept jobs: nights only, weekends, specific hours. The node never interrupts your gaming — it detects GPU load and pauses automatically when you launch a game.
Earn per AI job completed
Every completed job credits your account. You earn 70% of the billing rate. Earnings show up in your dashboard in real time. Withdraw via Wise or crypto once you hit $50.
Realistic monthly earnings
Gross = provider rate × hours. Net = gross minus estimated electricity ($0.15/kWh average US). These are honest ranges, not best-case scenarios.
| GPU | Scenario | Gross | Net est. |
|---|---|---|---|
| RTX 4090(top pick) | Nights only (8h/day = 240h/mo) | $84 | ~$66 |
| RTX 4090(top pick) | 50% availability (360h/mo) | $126 | ~$108 |
| RTX 4070 | Nights only (240h/mo) | $47 | ~$36 |
| RTX 4070 | 50% availability (360h/mo) | $71 | ~$54 |
| RTX 3080 | Nights only (240h/mo) | $47 | ~$35 |
| RTX 3080 | 50% availability (360h/mo) | $71 | ~$54 |
Provider share is 70% of billing. Electricity estimated at 320W (RTX 4090), 200W (RTX 4070/3080) at $0.15/kWh. Actual results vary with local electricity rates and job fill rate.
Will this damage my GPU?
Honest answer: running AI training loads is the same thermal profile as gaming — sustained high GPU utilization. It's not harder on the hardware than a long session of Cyberpunk 2077. What matters is temperature management.
Recommended precautions:
- Cap TDP at 80% using MSI Afterburner or EVGA Precision. You lose ~5% performance but temperatures drop 10–15°C and noise drops significantly.
- Set a GPU temp limit — stop accepting jobs if core temp exceeds 83°C. The node client supports this natively.
- Clean your fans once a year. Dust is the real GPU killer, not compute load.
For reference: data centers run enterprise GPUs (H100, A100) at 100% TDP, 24 hours a day, for 3–5 years. Consumer GPUs at 80% TDP for 8 hours a night are nowhere near that stress level.
Setup in 10 minutes
Prerequisites: Python 3.10+ and Docker Desktop installed. Both are free and take about 5 minutes to set up if you don't have them.
Install the node client
Installs the GhostNexus provider daemon via pip.
pip install ghostnexus-node
Start with your schedule
Replace YOUR_KEY with the API key from your GhostNexus dashboard. The --schedule flag accepts any time range. Omit it to run 24/7.
ghostnexus-node start --api-key YOUR_KEY --schedule "22:00-08:00"
Add a weekend window
Stack multiple schedule flags to add weekend availability on top of nightly hours.
ghostnexus-node start --api-key YOUR_KEY --schedule "22:00-08:00" --schedule-weekend "00:00-23:59"
Cap TDP for long-run safety
Node will pause job intake if GPU temp exceeds 83°C and instructs the GPU to cap at 80% TDP.
ghostnexus-node config --max-temp 83 --tdp-cap 80
How it compares to other "earn with PC" options
| Option | Monthly (net) | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Folding@home | $0 | Purely altruistic — no payout |
| Crypto mining (RTX 3080) | $2–8 net | Kaspa, April 2026, after electricity |
| Sell your GPU | One-time | You lose the hardware permanently |
| GhostNexus (RTX 3080) | $35–54 net | Nights + weekends, after electricity |
| GhostNexus (RTX 4090) | $66–108 net | Nights + weekends, after electricity |
Crypto mining figures based on Kaspa (KAS) difficulty and price as of April 2026. GhostNexus figures assume 50% availability for RTX 4090, nights + weekends for RTX 3080.
Common questions
Do I need to be home when jobs run?
No. The node client runs headlessly. Jobs execute in isolated Docker containers and stop automatically when your schedule ends. You don't need to touch anything.
What if a job runs past my scheduled end time?
Jobs have a maximum runtime you can configure. If a job is still running at your cutoff, the node sends a graceful stop signal. Short wrap-up time (usually < 2 minutes), then your GPU is yours again.
Can I use my PC while it's earning?
Light CPU tasks (web browsing, video) yes. Anything that claims the GPU — games, video editing, rendering — will automatically pause job acceptance until you close that workload.
When do I get paid?
Earnings accumulate in your GhostNexus dashboard in real time. Withdrawals are processed via Wise or crypto once you reach a $50 minimum balance. Most providers reach that threshold in under 2 weeks.
