GPU Cloud Comparison
GPU Cloud Comparison 2026: RunPod vs Vast.ai vs GhostNexus vs Lambda Labs
Pricing, GDPR compliance, billing, and support — complete breakdown
The GPU cloud market has evolved significantly in 2025–2026. New providers have entered, existing ones have restructured their pricing tiers, and regulatory compliance — particularly GDPR and the EU AI Act — has become a real differentiator for European teams. Choosing the wrong provider now means either overpaying at the hyperscaler tier or accumulating regulatory liability on peer-to-peer platforms.
This comparison covers the four providers most commonly used by ML engineers and European AI startups: RunPod, Vast.ai, GhostNexus, and Lambda Labs. Pricing data was collected in April 2026 from each provider's public pricing pages. We compare on GPU pricing (RTX 4090, A100 40GB, A100 80GB, H100 SXM), GDPR compliance, billing model, minimum deposit, spot availability, and support.

Provider-by-Provider Analysis
RunPod
Best for: US teams, low-cost experimentation (Community), certified workloads (Secure)
RunPod operates two distinct tiers. RunPod Community is a peer-to-peer marketplace — fast to provision, excellent price when supply is high, but with no GDPR DPA and unpredictable reliability. RunPod Secure Cloud uses certified data centers and is significantly more compliant, but at a 50–70% price premium over Community. For EU teams, Secure is the only viable RunPod option, and even then, DPA availability should be verified. For US teams, Community remains one of the cheapest ways to access high-end GPUs for research workloads.
Vast.ai
Best for: US researchers, lowest-cost spot compute, non-sensitive workloads
Vast.ai offers the broadest selection of GPU models and often the lowest spot prices in the market. The peer-to-peer model means you can find RTX 4090s under $0.40/hr when supply is high. The tradeoff is reliability (consumer hardware with no SLA), data location uncertainty (self-reported, not contractually guaranteed), and zero GDPR compliance infrastructure. Vast.ai is appropriate for open-source research with no personal data — it is not appropriate for any EU-facing commercial AI workloads.
Lambda Labs
Best for: US hyperscale workloads, multi-node training clusters
Lambda Labs positions itself as a developer-friendly alternative to AWS for large-scale training. Their H100 pricing ($2.99/hr) is competitive for hyperscaler-grade hardware. The main limitations for EU teams are: US-only infrastructure (no EU data residency), hourly billing (versus per-second at other providers), and limited GDPR compliance documentation. Lambda is strong for large multi-node clusters and established US companies — not the right fit for EU startups needing GDPR compliance.
GhostNexus
Best for: EU teams, GDPR/AI Act compliance, per-second billing on premium GPUs
GhostNexus was built from the ground up for European teams. All nodes are EU/EEA-located, a GDPR DPA is available immediately, and per-second billing means you never pay for idle time. Pricing sits between RunPod Community (which has no GDPR compliance) and RunPod Secure (which has partial compliance at higher cost) — at $2.20/hr for A100 80GB, it undercuts RunPod Secure by 31% while offering stronger compliance guarantees. The Python SDK with region='eu-west' provides explicit EU routing with full audit logging for AI Act compliance.
